Inspirational Poetry

Gone from my sight...
   Henry Van Dyke

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs ...like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!"

"Gone where?"

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear the load of the living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!" There are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: "Here she comes!"

Mending my soul at the River..
Cindy L. Houghton

It struck when I was not looking
... invading the core of my life

Freezing my spirit with panic and fear
taunting with pain and with loss

As confusion set in my inner light slowly grew dim
I had lost all my sense of direction

The Raven flew by and heard my cry
it ceased on my inner reflection

Transformation is near, just release all your fear
follow your heart to the river

Wide is the gate & broad is the path that has got you to where you are now
but, small is the gate & narrow is the path that leads to the edge of the river

I picked up my faith making way to the gate
grateful as many don't find it

My sisters looked on, knowing the path I had gone
hearts smiling with love as I reached it

One guided my time, more than mending a line
for she helped mend my soul at the river

Time is

Too Slow for those who Wait,
Too Swift for those who Fear,
Too Long for those who Grieve,
Too Short for those who Rejoice;
But for those who Love,
Time is not.

Henry Van Dyke
